One of the key principles in succeeding online with content marketing is to have the right mindset. It’s all about recognizing our thoughts as either positive or negative for our forward progress.
One of the most important things is to avoid scarcity thinking.
It’s very easy for us to believe that we don’t really have anything to say, that we can’t be seen as an expert.
This couldn’t be further from the truth.
The fact of the matter is “expert” status is only based on knowing something someone else wants to know. Simple as that.
If you know how to do a thing that someone else doesn’t yet know how to do and they need to do that thing in order to accomplish a goal or solve a problem, then to them you are an expert.
It’s very important to adopt this mindset.
This isn’t about becoming self-important - The mindset shouldn’t be that you’re the most wonderful thing since sliced bread, but rather that you have something of value to share and that sharing that will help people, it will bless them, it will encourage them, it will help them get farther in life.
When you do that, it’s the right thing for you to be paid for the information that you create, curate, or report on. This is a true win-win!
The other vital mindset when you begin this type of content marketing or online business is to realize that you can make huge changes in tiny steps.
Let me give you an example:
Many of the people that I speak to have been trying to make money online for years. Most of them have been trying to make money online for two, three, or four years. Very often you run into people who have been trying to build a business, make money online, or achieve some other worthwhile goal, for over a year.
I ask people that I consult with this question, “What if during that period of time you had written one article per week?”
Many of the top names online write an article per day, but that’s too high a threshold for this discussion. What if you had written only one article per week?
If you have been trying to make money online for one year, you would have 52 articles already. That is a powerful platform from which you can build a real business.
- You can build your mailing list.
- You can sell products.
- You can develop a relationship with people.
It’s important to understand that huge changes can be made in tiny steps. Every book that I’ve written has been written one word, one paragraph, one sentence at a time.
Think about this: if you want a 75 page book and you say to yourself, “I’ll write a page a day,” in only a couple of months you have an entire book.
If you take this idea of making huge changes in tiny steps it will help you not get overwhelmed with the big picture of building an online business.
Instead you can tackle the project one step at a time:
- Establishing your blog
- Installing WordPress
- Posting to your blog three times a week
If you take the big changes that need to be made in tiny steps, it will smooth your way and make your goals much faster and easier to accomplish!
